The Basement is now, well… a basement
These four photos show how we have now poured the concrete for the “roof” of the basement which obviously is the floor of the lobby area.
At first, when looking down from the side of the excavation the basement looked a bit small and I was concerned we’d designed it incorrectly. But the architects had it right. Now that there’s a lid on top of the space, when I walked down there the place is huge-plenty of room.
The ceiling heights are great and will give us plenty of room to design a really cool ceiling for the cellar bar.
The next step is to waterproof the walls with black tar, and backfill the outside of the basement with the huge piles of dirt on the site. Later the slabs will be completed and we can welcome the framers and carpenters. Hope you will follow along…
